La Bufadora Viewing Area

Watch ocean waves compress inside a submerged cave and erupt up to 100 feet (30 meters) into the air.

The main viewing area is a multi-level paved platform built into the cliffs of the Punta Banda Peninsula. Admission to the platform is free, and the paved walkway is fully wheelchair accessible.

Eruptions happen constantly, roughly every 13 to 17 seconds. For the largest spouts of seawater, time your visit for high tide or large winter swells.

Main Observation Deck

30-45 minsWheelchair accessible

This is the primary paved platform built into the cliffs directly above the sea cave. It gives visitors a close-up view of the marine geyser in action. Stand close to the front railing at high tide for a guaranteed sea spray shower.

The Sea Cave

OngoingErupts every 13-17 seconds

This narrow submerged crevice is the source of the blowout. Incoming waves get trapped and compressed inside the cave before erupting upwards. Watch the rhythm of the waves closely, as eruptions happen roughly every 15 seconds.

Punta Banda Cliffs

15 minsLandscape photography

These rocky cliff faces flank the main geyser and overlook the Pacific Ocean. This is a great spot for landscape photography away from the immediate splash zone. Never climb down onto the coastal rocks, as rogue waves are extremely dangerous.
